We believe that life was purposefully designed such that the greatest peace and joy come from caring for the Earth and each other. While the last vestiges of colonial capitalism only offer the vast emptiness of a gilded cage. Thrive seeks to help ripple love and health into the world, to recover wholeness and self-sufficiency through a greater understanding of Nature. We aim to protect and nurture the Earth and the Elements as they protect and nurture us.
Live the ChangeIn 2017, Bevan and Dianne settled as Hlafweard and Hlæfdige of Hogsback, envisioning a world where families, communities, and businesses could thrive in harmony with Nature. Hogsback's ancient forests and waterfalls remind us that the Elements of Earth, Water, Air, and Fire, are not mere resources, but sacred forces that hold the key to human wholeness. Through a sincere desire to help others, we hope to serve as an example of a more peaceful, more joyous and prosperous world, where humanity works in harmony with Nature and the Elements. For as the pre-colonial African concept of Ubuntu teaches us that I can only be whole, where all else is whole.
First and foremost, Thrive is a physical place of learning and healing, while we also offer an online course for greater insights and those unable to visit. We are renowned for our fresh, organic, healthy (nutrient-dense) food, with a special focus on catering for vegans and vegetarians. For us, food is both medicine and a delight, and we understand which plants can help heal, to advise and cater for you accordingly. Thrive is also however a homestead and home to several dogs and animals. Please therefore call Dianne on 082 820 0260 when you arrive or want to visit.

Having made the conscious choice to live below the poverty line in an amaPondo village in 1995, Dianne is now an acclaimed expert in permaculture, biodynamics, and natural farming, with every season bringing fresh new crops and delicious, nutrient dense, gourmet meals to the table. First and foremost for Dianne is the soil-food-web, through which all of life passes. As she notes, "from healthy soil comes healthy plants, which feed healthy families."
Perhaps she benefitted from her ancestral relations to Vita Sackville-West, the acclaimed author and gardener. Or from the madness of a great-uncle, Joshua Norton, the slightly-mad self-proclaimed "Emperor of the United States, and the Protector of Mexico." Either way, with Dianne as your mentor, you can be assured of much sought after knowledge and expertise, delivered in a friendly, accessible way.

As a mining engineer that co-founded the online global coal market, Bevan comes from the opposite end of the spectrum to Dianne. You can rely on him for business and financial advice, although as a lifelong student of history and the esoteric, he can also explain where and why humanity finds itself at today.
Bevan maintains the content for the Sanctuary's course, which is full of insights that you will not find anywhere else. Perhaps because his ancestors include Grand Masters and Gold Keepers of the Knights Templar, the Stewart Kings of Scotland, the Black Knights and first Grand Masters of Jacobite Freemasonry, the Ruthvens who held the Philosopher's Stone, the Witches of Atholl, and the Drummond laird who founded the world's first public lending library.
Over the years we have benefitted from many mentors and found inspiration from many places. These are some of our most important influences, and we hope that some of their insight may be passed on through us when you come to spend some time with us.
